Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Pookie Talkie mobile application (the “App”) handles information. By using the App you agree to this policy.
1. No Personal Data Collected
We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number. We operate no servers that receive, log, or store your data.
2. How the App Works
Pookie Talkie is a walkie-talkie that connects devices directly to each other (“peer-to-peer”) over your local Wi-Fi network. Devices discover one another on the network and exchange audio between themselves. Nothing is routed through, or stored on, servers operated by us.
3. Microphone & Voice Audio
- The microphone is used only while you press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button to transmit live voice to other devices on the same channel and local network.
- Voice audio is streamed in real time to peers and is not recorded, not saved, and not uploaded to us or any third party.
- Once transmitted, audio is not retained anywhere by the App.
4. Information Stored on Your Device
To function, the App saves a small amount of data locally on your device only. This never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:
- Your chosen display name (defaults to a random name).
- Your last selected channel.
- App preferences (e.g. free-trial / ad state).
You can clear this data at any time from your device’s app settings (“Clear storage”) or by uninstalling the App.
5. Permissions We Request
- Microphone — to transmit your voice while you hold Push-To-Talk.
- Notifications — to show the ongoing “connected” notification while a session is active.
- Foreground Service — to keep the walkie-talkie running reliably when the screen is off.
- Wi-Fi state & multicast — to discover and connect to other devices on your local network.
- Prevent sleeping / battery optimization exemption (optional) — to maintain the connection in the background. This is optional and you may decline it.
- Internet — used only to serve advertisements (see below); it is not used to send your voice or personal data anywhere.
6. Advertising (Third-Party)
The App may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google may collect and process certain device information (such as a device advertising identifier) in accordance with Google’s own policies. We do not receive or store this information ourselves.
- Google’s handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
- You can learn about and control ad personalization at Google My Ad Center, and reset or limit your advertising ID in your device settings.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Data Security
Because we do not collect or store your personal data on any server, there is no personal database of ours that could be breached. Voice communication happens directly between devices on your local network.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the revised policy.
